Every recipe has idle time. The water is coming to a boil, the onions need eight minutes, the chicken has forty in the oven. Use it to wash whatever you are done with.
You end the meal with a clean kitchen and nobody negotiating whose turn it is. The small bowls from your mise-en-place go first. They multiply if left alone.
